Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for Animals
What Is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Technique, often called “tapping,” is an energy healing method created by Gary Craig in the 1990s. It’s done by lightly tapping on “feel good” acupressure points that line up with the meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine while holding a specific intention in mind.
People have nine main tapping points, and animals have nearly the same ones in nearly the same places. With animals, I skip the underarm point, and I use the “karate chop” point only when working remotely.
How It Helps
EFT works directly on the energy behind an issue, helping an animal release what they’re holding in their mind, body, emotions, and spirit. It can be especially helpful for:
- Fear and anxiety, including noise and thunderstorm fears
- Reactivity, such as leash reactivity
- Emotional patterns left by past experiences
- Stress around change
Can EFT Be Done Remotely?
Yes. Tapping doesn’t require touching your animal. I can tap on myself on your animal’s behalf, “air tap” near them, or use a surrogate such as another animal or even a stuffed animal. That means EFT sessions can be done remotely, wherever you and your animal live.
EFT and Animal Communication
EFT often follows an animal communication session, because hearing from your animal helps us pinpoint exactly what to tap on. Sometimes, though, simply being heard is enough for an animal to begin relaxing and releasing.
Learn to Tap at Home
I can teach you how to tap on your animal in a single session, so you can keep supporting them between sessions. This works over a video call, too. I’ll demonstrate on a surrogate, such as another animal or a stuffed animal, while you follow along with your own.
EFT is complementary and is not a substitute for veterinary diagnosis, treatment, or emergency care.
